PayPal Global Payments Platform Open for Innovation

At PayPal Innovate 09, PayPal’s first developer conference held in San Francisco on Nov. 3-4, the company officially opened its platform to developers and unveiled its new application programming interfaces (APIs), a new developer portal at X.com, and new pricing for service payments. PayPal Developer Challenge
Are you up to the challenge? PayPal is looking for the most innovative ideas about how to solve the fundamental problems people face when trying to pay or get paid online.

Developers who build applications using the PayPal X APIs can enter the PayPal X Developer Challenge for the opportunity to win prizes totaling $75,000 in cash and $75,000 in waved fees. Finalists will be determined by popular vote on X.com and a panel of distinguished judges including Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of eBay Inc., and PayPal president Scott Thompson.

New Applications Built with PayPal X Launched
More than a dozen developers announced new applications built with the PayPal X platform. AERS, Carlson, FIS, FundRazr, MedPayOnline, Payvment, Playspan, ShopSavvy, Storenvy, Super Rewards, Sun Microsystems, S1 and Zuora all announced new solutions. These companies represent just a sampling of the more than 1,000 beta participants already monetizing new and innovative applications on PayPal X.

PayPal Now Available in 24 Currencies
In addition, PayPal announced that customers can now send and receive payments in Brazilian real, Malaysian ringgit, Philippine peso, Taiwan new dollar and Thai baht, bringing the total number of currencies supported by PayPal to 24.
