Even a March blizzard on a Monday night couldn’t keep eBay from hosting a phenomenal party to fete an important cause.
Devin Wenig, the president of eBay, and Steven Kolb, the chief executive of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), convened nearly 200 designers, media and industry influencers Monday to mark the third year of You Can’t Fake Fashion, a partnership designed to raise awareness against counterfeit products and celebrate original design.
More than 60 guests joined Wenig and Kolb for a seated dinner at Lower East Side hotspot The General, including participating designers Alejandro Ingelmo, Brian Wolk, Claude Morais of RUFFIAN, Gilles Mendel, Nanette Lepore, Pamela Love and Rebecca Taylor.
Following dinner, guests made their way to The General’s adjacent nightclub FINALE where the 2013 collection of one-of-a-kind totes were featured in an exclusive exhibit. Dinner guests mixed and mingled with New York’s elite, while eBay’s very own Jauretsi, who curates The Inside Source blog, entertained the crowd with a funk and soul set, while guests enjoyed signature cocktails, a chocolate tote personalization bar, a live feed screen to explore and curate their feeds, a GIF photo booth and a view of the coveted tote collection.
Here’s what the attendees had to say:
“Run, run, run to eBay to check these out. Something for everyone!” — Fashion Week Daily
“The bags tend to be wildly different in shape, color and style (so everything, really)—and this year’s crop is no exception, ranging from Marchesa’s elegant black minaudière to Current/Elliott’s weathered denim-and-leather tote.” — Lucky Magazine
“All of the proceeds from the collection benefit the CFDA Foundation, so not only are you walking away with a rare designer handbag, you’re also making a charitable contribution to the industry at large and helping to fight fashion piracy. Sounds like a win-win to us!” — Marie Claire
