eBay Motors and eBay Mobile Drive Innovation
By: Sue Rosenstock
eBay Motors and eBay Mobile held a private media event on Thursday, June 21, 6 p. m. , at the Press Club in San Francisco to talk about how eBay is transforming the Motors business through innovations in the eBay Mobile Motors app.
Steve Yankovich, Vice President of eBay Mobile (pictured on left), and Gregory Boutte, Vice President of eBay Motors and Electronics, were on hand to talk about new mobile features that allow motors enthusiasts to engage with unique content and personalize their eBay Motors shopping experience. These features include My Vehicles, which allows a user to save vehicles in a virtual garage and easily search for parts, and a vehicle photo search, which enables a user to snap a photo of a car and view eBay listings for cars of the same make and model.
Attendees also received the first glimpse of the new Socialcasting feature now included in the eBay Motors app that enables users to follow real-time tweets and updates from eBay-sponsored races to get a feel for what’s happening at the track wherever they are.
Throughout the evening, Yankovich explained that eBay is committed to developing innovative features and apps to meet changing consumer needs. The goal is to provide enthusiasts with fresh, inspiring content, and enable them to engage with the app whenever inspiration strikes, no matter where they are.
This focus on innovation includes the development of more personalization and social features, support for international markets, the creation of more mobile platforms and the inclusion of more unique, original content, such as eBay’s own mobile series The World’s Fastest Car Show.
Boutte discussed how innovation is driving the eBay Motors shopping experience and having a direct impact on the success of the eBay Motors business. He explained how forward-thinking innovation in the areas of mobile, personalization and inventory are helping eBay provide motors enthusiasts with an experience in purchasing vehicles and auto parts that is unmatched anywhere else – and people are responding in a big way.
Yankovich and Boutte also shared some new statistics that demonstrate the impact these innovations have had on the eBay Motors business. There are now 9,000 vehicles and 340,000 auto parts sold per week through eBay mobile apps. eBay Motors has also reached a significant milestone for My Vehicles, surpassing 2 million registered vehicles, showing that eBay users see a great benefit in personalizing their motors shopping experience by “parking” the vehicles they own or desire in their virtual garages.
