eBay Now said Wednesday it was partnering with designer Richard Chai to introduce the “eBay Now Tote” – an exclusive shopping bag available only through eBay’s same day local delivery service. A limited launch will start Sept. 5 in New York City and the tote will be available to all eBay Now customers in New York City, San Francisco, San Jose and Bay Area Peninsula starting in October.
eBay is no stranger to designer collaborations. The company previously partnered with Derek Lam and Narciso Rodriguez to create exclusive collections for eBay and continues to work with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to create a customized line of limited-edition “You Can’t Fake Fashion” bags.
To celebrate the collaboration, eBay Chief Marketing Officer Richelle Parham and Chai —himself a CFDA winner — hosted a party Wednesday night at New York City’s Gramercy Terrace where attendees could preview the electric blue-and-white tote. Chai said the eBay Now tote, which reflects the graphic patterns of his 2014 collection, was inspired by New York’s tough reputation and underlying romanticism.
“The root of my inspiration comes from being in New York – the energy, vibrancy and excitement,” said Chai. “The bright yet calming blue was the perfect color for the dynamic print – matching the calmness and peace of mind eBay Now brings to my busy daily life in the city.”
Parham said eBay was lucky and excited to partner with Chai. “Richard is a successful and tech savvy designer known for his sophistication and attention to detail,” she said.
