The Inside Source, eBay’s Style Site, Has a New Face

The overhaul includes powerful new ways to navigate and surface custom content.
The Inside Source — eBay’s popular online publication dedicated to style and trend spotting — is freshly revamped, sporting a sophisticated redesign. According to Editorial Director Meredith Barnett, the relaunched site not only has a new look, but also new ways to surface and navigate compelling content, archives, Editor’s Picks, and much more.
The relaunch of The Inside Source leverages synergies between eBay and the publication in brand new ways, according to Barnett. "When it comes to publishing a digital style magazine like The Inside Source, unlike traditional retailers that are trying to push out inventory, eBay has a unique, unbiased perspective — much like your favorite blogs — regarding the merchandise it chooses to highlight,” she said. “But what's really exciting is that because The Inside Source has access to data on what eBay's 90 million users are shopping for, it has insights into trends that are compelling and one-of-a-kind."
With its relaunch, Barnett said The Inside Source will become stronger at surfacing useful analyses of what is selling on eBay, and tying editorial content to the trends. For example, she noted that sales for items related to the television show Gossip Girl, which premiered Sept. 13, rose 29 percent in the 30 days leading up to the premiere, versus the 30 days prior. The Inside Source has an interview with Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman, which touches on upcoming trends from the show and demonstrates how to shop on eBay as main characters Serena and Blair do.
The relaunch content also includes an in-depth interview with Padma Lakshmi, the host of the reality television show Top Chef. Among other topics that Lakshmi discussed in the interview, she noted that she recently bought on eBay a pair of mother of pearl inlaid opera glasses from Paris in the 1920s, and is searching for antique Victorian lace and vintage baby clothes.
“A lot of magazines might interview Padma,” Barnett said, “but through its connection to eBay, The Inside Source has a unique vantage point on the things that style makers like her might collect.”
