Introducing eBay’s new APIs

eBay News Team

The next chapter for eBay developers as they help reinvent shopping and selling on eBay.

For over 20 years, eBay has been a leading marketplace, connecting shoppers to its one billion listings and serving as a platform that enables sellers to grow their businesses. Today, at the Anita Borg Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference, the company is announcing the next milestone for its eBay Developers Program. It’s revamping its API platform with ten new standards-based APIs, with more to come in 2017.

“We started this journey with one partner and realized early on that this could be massively beneficial for our global community of developers,” said Gail Frederick, Senior Director of eBay’s Developer Ecosystem and Services, who has been leading the team of engineers focused on eBay’s APIs. “Today’s API announcement is a win-win: we are enabling our partners to grow their customer base and easily scale their business.”

With these new APIs, eBay is arming its more than 340,000 registered developers with more technology and features that benefit both buyers and sellers. eBay’s Sell APIs provide third party tool developers and sellers all the capabilities needed to fully manage their eBay business end-to-end, and the Buy APIs enable shoppers to buy without ever having to visit eBay.com.

The new APIs are an example of how eBay is leveraging technology to accelerate and disrupt commerce. “With these APIs, developers can rapidly create an integration and help accelerate buying from eBay anywhere, anytime. To me, that’s true disruption - and, it’s a leap forward for eBay developers,” said Frederick.  All of these APIs use the latest technology such as OAUTH authentication, JSON payloads and RESTful design principles.

“With these new APIs, we are making it simple for our developers and sellers to rapidly integrate with eBay and onboard all their inventory using retail and industry standard practices. It’s a key part of our promise to deliver the most powerful commerce platform to our seller and developer partners so they can build sophisticated integrations to manage all end-to-end selling operations on eBay” said Shan Vosseller, Senior Director of Product, Business Selling.
