Keynote webcasts from industry experts, and more, are free online.
PayPal has provided new details on its second annual PayPal X Innovate conference, taking place Oct. 26-27 at the Moscone West conference center in San Francisco, Calif. The conference will include thousands of developers and industry experts who are collectively steering the future of payments and creating innovative applications leveraging PayPal. Among topics discussed, speakers and attendees will explore the explosive growth of mobile payments, growth in micropayments, the rise of social commerce and the shift to Internet-enabled local payments.
Numerous noted keynote speakers will explore these topics. They include eBay Inc. President and CEO John Donahoe, Internet browser pioneer and technology venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, O’Reilly Media Founder and CEO Tim O’Reilly, PayPal President Scott Thompson, and PayPal Vice President of Platform and Emerging Technology Osama Bedier. The session schedule and registration are available at the Innovate site.
“We opened up our platform last year and didn’t know what to expect,” said Bedier, who noted that move has helped PayPal spread to many new sites and applications, where it is increasingly used around the globe. “Close to 30 percent of PayPal transactions happen between a sender and recipient who are in different countries.”
“Last year we wanted to let developers into the PayPal X sandbox and see how they would be inspired to change the way people pay,” added Naveed Anwar, Senior Director of PayPal’s Developer Network. “The results in only one year have been both inspiring and surprising. We’ve seen exponential growth in mobile payments in particular, as developers across all major mobile platforms are adopting PayPal for its simplicity.”
Attendees at Innovate 2010 are invited to more than 50 sessions. Hot topics include sessions that will explore the capabilities of mobile and social activities, such as:
- The Mobile Payments Opportunity in Emerging Markets
- Attracting Gen Yers: Mobile Banking, Social Media and New Technologies for Financial Institutions
- How to Integrate PayPal for Digital Goods
- Replacing Checks and Cash with PayPal
The winners of PayPal’s 2010 Developer Challenge will also be announced at Innovate, and more than 300 PayPal team members will be on hand to give attendees one-on-one support and help them monetize their ideas. Live webcasts of keynote addresses and other events are available Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and will remain available in archived format.
