Wrap up: eBay Hits the NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma
By: Sue Rosenstock
eBay Mobile and eBay Motors hit the racetrack this weekend (June 23-24) for the NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. The team gathered at the eBay-sponsored Motors Fan Experience booth.
Racing enthusiasts had the opportunity to check out Kevin Harvick’s 2005 Nextel Cup road racing car, currently listed on eBay. Fans were also invited to snap a photo of themselves in one of 10 virtual dream cars through eBay’s new “Dream Car” green screen experience. Featured cars included a Porsche Carrera GT, one of which sold via an eBay app for $369,000, a Porsche 911, which brought in $217,000, and a 1973 Ferrari 375 GTS/4 Daytona Spider, which commanded a whopping $1.8 million via a North Carolina eBay dealer.
eBay Team members were also on hand all weekend to demo the eBay Mobile Motors app, which offers a number of features designed for the motors enthusiast, including My Vehicles, which gives users the ability to register cars in a virtual garage and quickly shop for parts and accessories. The app also enables users to snap a photo of a car and view live listings for cars of the same make/model currently on eBay. Fans at the track this weekend could also use the app’s QR code scanning feature to win prizes, such as a hot lap in the official pace car. And for those who can’t get enough of the track, the app offers “socialcasting” to deliver real-time content in the form of tweets, photos and more from major races.
Speaking of content, Clint Bowyer picked up his first win on the 1.99-mile road course.
