Four years ago, Spencer Apland was attending business school, but was still not quite sure what he wanted to do with his life. As a do-it-yourself mechanic, he had a revelation after buying a wrecked car to use for parts: maybe he could sell the unused parts on eBay. One sale led to another, and soon he was moving so many units, he decided to quit school and start his own business, 541 Motorsports. Spencer rented a 1,200-square-foot shop, which he outgrew in a year. He hired two employees and rented a 2,500-square-foot space and outgrew that, as well. Today, 541 Motorsports continues to grow.
Spencer’s eBay business provides a comfortable living for his family. As someone living in a small town, he believes his business would not have had near the success it has without a marketplace like eBay. Spencer is also passionate about the eBay community – one of his favorite things is the buyer and seller interaction, and he works extremely hard to provide the best possible experience for his customers. Spencer is putting the pedal to the metal these days, and enjoying the fast lane.
