Braintree Does One Touch Payments, to Offer Bitcoin to Developers Soon

Hill Ferguson, Chief Product Officer, PayPal

Today at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, we announced the general availability of One Touch™ mobile payments with PayPal, the industry’s first and only single touch payment experience on iOS (and in public beta on Android). One Touch with Venmo is also in public beta on iOS and Android. In addition we announced that Braintree has partnered with Coinbase to offer a trusted and secure way for people to pay with bitcoin across their favorite apps in the coming months.

bitcoinWhile One Touch’s experience and the Braintree partnership with Coinbase are both new, our purpose behind them is something we’ve been focused on since the beginning -- it’s about offering our customers the most seamless and secure payment experiences, and choice in how, when and where they want to pay. (You can see OneTouch in action in a video here.)

Bringing seamless experiences with One Touch
Innovative apps like Jane.com, ParkWhiz, StubHub, Type Tees by Threadless, among others, have already integrated One Touch, the safest way to pay, and will be rolling out the newest version of their apps in the coming days. With One Touch, people can pay across their favorite apps in a single touch, eliminating the need for usernames and passwords each time you pay, while maintaining the trust and security that you expect from PayPal.

Eliminating trade-offs: seamless and secure
Traditionally, there’s been a tradeoff between convenience and security, but now we can have both. We tell our mobile devices so much about ourselves that our industry leading fraud tools -- which millions of businesses and consumers trust -- can detect in real time when something seems wrong and can require additional information to complete a purchase. PayPal customers also benefit from extensive seller and buyer protection, giving you the peace of mind when you're making any transaction with PayPal – whether it's online, via your mobile device or in-store.

Bringing Bitcoin to Braintree developers
We believe in customer choice -- choice in terms of the device they want to pay on, the OS they prefer to use, and even the payment method they want to pay with. With Braintree’s new partnership with Coinbase, merchants and developers that have integrated with Braintree’s v.zero SDK will be able to easily begin accepting bitcoin in the coming months, enabling their customers to pay with the alternative currency across their favorite apps.
