Today, eBay announced a pilot program with Vroom, the largest online pre-owned car retailer, that enables Vroom to make formal cash offers to purchase vehicles from selected private sellers on eBay.
“eBay continues to enhance its vehicles marketplace by connecting sellers to a broader range of buyers. This pilot program is another channel for companies such as Vroom to source vehicles directly from private sellers.” said Tony Hoang, head of vehicles for eBay Motors North America. “The program also benefits our private sellers since it provides an additional trusted channel through which to receive a cash offer and conduct a safe and fast transaction.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with eBay to provide value for its users, in addition to helping us increase our inventory,” said Scott Chesrown, chief revenue officer at Vroom. “Many of the cars we sell are purchased from consumers before we fully refurbish them and sell them to Vroom customers, so we’re looking forward to adding cars from eBay Motors users to our inventory.”
The pilot will roll out in Q3 2016 for selected private sellers on eBay Motors. At launch, it will be limited to sellers who have not received or chosen to accept an offer for their vehicle at the end of the listing period. There are also certain eligibility conditions for the vehicle, related to age, mileage, and title.
