eBay for Charity Raised Nearly $162 Million for Causes in 2023

Another successful year concludes as eBay for Charity celebrates two decades of impactful giving.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, eBay for Charity raised nearly $162 million in 2023 for nonprofits around the world, creating ripples of positive change through community giving on our marketplace.

One of the most active giving platforms today, eBay for Charity empowers our global community to take action and support charitable causes whenever they buy and sell on our marketplace. Buyers can purchase items in support of their favorite charities or add donations at checkout. Sellers can choose to donate a percentage of their sales to a charity. And charities can sell on eBay to achieve their fundraising goals.

Since 2003, eBay for Charity has raised more than $1.3 billion and enrolled more than 225,000 charities through our marketplace.

“Regardless if you are a buyer or a seller, eBay for Charity makes it easy to shop your values and support communities you care about,” said Pats Peña, Lead Product Manager at eBay for Charity. “If you can't find your favorite nonprofit, ask them to sign up! Hundreds of charities enroll every year and start benefiting from our programs.”

Here are some of the ways we showed up last year:

Supporting Hollywood Writers and Actors During the Strike

The Union Solidarity Coalition, founded last summer by Hollywood writers and directors, joined eBay for Charity in launching an auction to help impacted colleagues during the writers’ and actors’ strike. The highly successful campaign offered numerous fun experiences for bidders, including dinner with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, solving a crossword puzzle with Natasha Lyonne via Zoom, and Lena Dunham painting a mural in an auction winner’s home.

Over $211,000 was raised and donated to crew members who lost health insurance due to strike-related shutdowns.

Providing Wildfire Relief in Hawaii

In August, images from the devastating Maui wildfire that killed more than 100 people shocked the world. eBay supported humanitarian efforts with a fundraising match program to benefit World Central Kitchen, American Red Cross, and Hawaii Community Foundation. Buyers and sellers raised more than $128,000 for the three nonprofits in partnership with eBay for Charity.

Auctioning Luxury Accessories During Vogue World 2023

eBay for Charity and “Vogue” magazine collaborated on a series of photo shoots featuring celebrities recreating archival “Vogue” moments. Supermodel Twiggy, singer-songwriter Rita Ora, and social media star Wisdom Kaye recreated iconic images with authentic accessories found on eBay. Each item was backed by eBay Authenticity Guarantee. The subsequent auction raised $63,800 for Canopy Planet.

Funding GiveLove with Actress Patricia Arquette

Patricia Arquette and friends organized a celebrity eBay for Charity auction to support GiveLove, a skills training organization dedicated to promotion of ecological sanitation and composting. The auction raised $51,000 to help schools, communities, and non-governmental organizations provide toilets and sewage treatment solutions in high-need areas like Haiti, Nicaragua, and Uganda.

Responding to the Earthquakes in Turkey

In February 2023, a series of devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey near the border with Syria killed more than 50,000 people. To help survivors in affected areas, eBay for Charity launched a matching donation campaign, Give at Checkout. Proceeds from the campaign, which totaled nearly $45,000, supported relief efforts by the International Rescue Committee, Team Rubicon, and World Central Kitchen.
