At eBay, we’ve long believed in the power of pre-loved fashion. Today, that belief is being supercharged by digital innovation. From Digital Product Passports (DPPs) to next-gen textile recycling, circular fashion is gaining momentum and accelerating a more transparent, sustainable, and economically vibrant fashion ecosystem.
Unlocking Value with Digital Product Passports
Set to launch in the EU in 2026, DPPs are digital records that store key product details—like materials, origin, and care—easily accessible. These passports enhance transparency and traceability across the supply chain, with benefits for sellers, consumers, and our planet.
A new report from eBay, in partnership with Bain & Co, reveals that DPPs could double the lifetime value of fashion products. Consumers could see up to 65% greater resale value, thanks to improved buyer confidence in a product's authenticity and condition.
Picture this:
A $500 designer jacket without a DPP might resell for $150, if the buyer questions its authenticity. With a DPP confirming its origin and care, that same jacket could resell for $300. This shift doesn't just benefit sellers—it supports a more circular economy by keeping quality fashion items in use longer.
“Digital Product Passports are critical to powering the future of circularity in fashion,” said Alexis Hoopes, VP of Global Fashion at eBay. “As a global marketplace at the forefront of resale, we’re exploring how better product data can enable smarter buying, responsible selling, and a more trusted platform. Unlocking value for consumers is a critical part of the connected product evolution.”
As the 2026 DPP launch approaches, platforms like eBay have a unique opportunity to lead the way toward a more transparent and sustainable fashion future. Our report underscores how digital innovation can unlock real economic and environmental value—for brands, for platforms, and most importantly, for people.

Fueling Innovation Through eBay’s Circular Fashion Fund
Transparency is only one piece of the puzzle. At eBay, we’re also investing in solutions that scale circularity. Our Circular Fashion Fund, supported by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue, spotlights and awards startups that are reimagining the fashion industry for the better.
This year, $300,000 was awarded to Refiberd, naming co-founder and CEO Sarika Bajaj as the Circular Fashion Innovator of the Year.
Refiberd’s AI-powered technology can scan and identify the material composition of textiles with remarkable accuracy. This opens new doors in resale authentication, recycling, and traceability, ultimately removing friction from resale and helping fashion businesses overcome barriers to circularity in fashion.

Refiberd, continuing to make an impact on the global stage, was also recently honored as the 2025 winner of the Trailblazer Programme by the Global Fashion Agenda and PDS Ventures. The announcement was made during the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, with Sarika accepting the award at the Celebration Dinner.
It’s inspiring to see Refiberd’s continued recognition on the global stage, and to witness a global acceleration in a more circular fashion economy.
