Inspired Holiday Shopping with the New eBay for iPad

More than half of eBay users (59%) are multi-screen shoppers. eBay is on a mission to create an engaging, curated and simplified shopping experience for its customers across all devices on which they shop and sell. 

Available globally­­ today in the App Store is the new eBay for iPad app.  It’s an exciting way to enhance shopping on eBay in time for the holidays.

The new eBay for iPad app takes the curated browse and discovery experience introduced last year with Collections even further. It is immersive, browsable and multi-touch, with an emphasis on content, an elevated design aesthetic, personalization, and easier shopping from the start page to checkout.

“Our aspiration is to make eBay the most inspiring place to shop,” said RJ Pittman, chief product officer at eBay. “The eBay for iPad app is an important step on our journey.  It delivers a better shopping experience for buyers and better merchandising capabilities for sellers.”

“We approached the development the new iPad app in a more agile way than ever before.  We want to bring more improvements to our customers faster, and solicit their feedback early in the product lifecycle. We will use our customers’ feedback to improve the quality and pace of innovation at eBay,” added Pittman.

According to Nielsen, the average U.S. consumer spends 60 hours per week consuming content across all devices.*  The new app puts a greater focus on content to tell stories about the items in eBay’s 800+ million product inventory, one of the most unique, diverse and interesting in the world. 

It also features simplified navigation and checkout, gesture-based exploration, a refined photography gallery, a more user-friendly My eBay experience (Buying, Selling, Watching, Following), new item detail (View Item) and seller profile pages, and fresh collections across popular categories (Motors, Fashion, Electronics, and Collectibles).

To celebrate the launch eBay has created exclusive deals in the US for iPad-centric accessories, and app-cessories in a set of collections available only through the new app.

eBay will introduce additional new features to benefit buyers and sellers in the coming months.  The commerce experience journey will not stop with iPad. eBay’s goal is to take the thinking behind this app and apply it on the desktop and every device.
