“Our first YOU CAN’T FAKE FASHION campaign with eBay last summer was hugely successful, and we continue to collaborate on this bold initiative to raise awareness and fight fakes”
“Our first YOU CAN’T FAKE FASHION campaign with eBay last summer was hugely successful, and we continue to collaborate on this bold initiative to raise awareness and fight fakes,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. “Authentic and original design is so critical to the industry’s livelihood, and we’re excited to have so many more designers on board this year, proving how supportive the entire fashion industry is of this issue and campaign.”
Following the sold-out 2011 summer collection, a collective of 76 CFDA designers – including CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, John Varvatos, Rachel Roy, The Row and more – have each customized a tote as one-of-a-kind. Catering to the unique styles of eBay shoppers, a limited-edition of four standard tote styles – bucket, duffle, gear and satchel – featuring the YOU CAN’T FAKE FASHION tagline are also available. Available at fixed, Buy It Now prices, the designer totes retail for $200 and the standard totes for $45. All proceeds benefit the CFDA Foundation.
"The first edition of the campaign and partnership between CFDA and eBay generated invaluable awareness around counterfeits, and we hope to see more momentum and even greater industry and consumer awareness with the new collection we are launching,” said Alan Marks, eBay’s Senior Vice President of Global Communications. “eBay is committed to being a leading industry voice in the fight against counterfeits – our business depends on a climate of trust between sellers and buyers worldwide. We're fundamentally aligned with rights owners and law enforcement in working to keep counterfeits off our platforms.”
With a designer handbag sold on eBay every 16 seconds, eBay is committed to offering a safe and secure experience to millions of shoppers around the world every day. eBay’s efforts in combating the sale of counterfeits include several anti-counterfeit initiatives, such as the Verified Rights Owner Program, and the company is continually introducing new proactive measures to combat the global trade in counterfeits. eBay employs state-of-the-art detection tools to monitor millions of listings daily, and has made additional investments to combat unlawful listings in the categories reportedly most targeted by counterfeiters including luxury goods.
“The YOU CAN'T FAKE FASHION campaign is a great effort, allowing all of us to come together and show the public our commitment to original design and combating counterfeits," said Deborah Lloyd, President and Chief Creative Officer, kate spade new york. "As much awareness we can raise around the dangers of counterfeits and the harm they cause the better."
A major destination for fashion shoppers with over 100 million active users, eBay offers an incredible selection of authentic fashion at great value. eBay is working directly with designers, brands and retailers to bring authentic merchandise to the marketplace through its Designer Exclusives platform with limited-edition collections from designers like Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam, Alexander Wang and Rebecca Minkoff, as well as eBay’s Fashion Outlet, the first virtual outlet mall in the U.S., offering discounted designer fashion directly from popular lifestyle brands and retailers, including Neiman Marcus Last Call, Betsey Johnson and BCBG.
