Women’s History Month Spotlight: In A Clutch

eBay News Team

Today we round out Women’s History Month with the story of eBay seller and entrepreneur Andrea Harrison.

Originally from Canada, Andrea Harrison moved to the United States in her early 20s. Previously Andrea spent about 30 years in the retail industry, most recently working in Atlanta as a Media Buyer for Macy's. In 2004, while still working full-time, she began selling on eBay part-time in the evenings at the suggestion of a friend. At the time she was selling mostly as a hobby, listing items such her son's outgrown baby clothes. But she quickly became addicted to selling on eBay and after only a few months of strong sales and positive customer feedback, Andrea quickly realized that her side gig could become something more.

Having studied fashion merchandising in college, Andrea always had a passion for fashion and accessories. In 2009, after Macy's began centralizing operations in New York, she decided to pursue her dream of starting her own business, launching In A Clutch. Her vision: helping buyers find trendy fashion accessories at a fraction of retail prices.

Even though as a single mother the thought of having to support herself and her son solely through eBay sales was at times daunting, she never let that intimidate her. Today, In A Clutch is a successful online handbag and accessory store where customers worldwide can benefit from Andrea's years of experience and fashion expertise. While her experience as a buyer helped to navigate the day-to-day of operating her business, it's her entrepreneurial tenacity that's helped grow her sales at an annual rate of between 15-20%. Andrea loves building her business on eBay because of the built-in exposure and global reach it provides and the incredible flexibility it affords her.

Andrea lives in Lithonia, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Her son Aydan currently attends Georgia Southern University.
