The DataLabs team at eBay has crunched the numbers to identify the hottest costumes for adults, children and pets this Halloween. Divided between cult-classic favorites such as Marvel and DC Comics superheroes, to modern day pop culture icons, eBay sales data inspires unique and in-demand Halloween costumes – all available at great prices on eBay.com. A growing trend among those who dress up for trick-or-treating is to also include their pets in the mix.
The National Retail Federation reports that more than 171 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween this year, with nearly half of respondents reporting that they will dress up in their favorite ghoulish garb. With 22 percent of Americans opting to shop for their costumes and décor online – spending an average of $82.93, eBay’s data provides shoppers the inspiration to find everything they need to make this year’s fright night costume their best yet.
While summer blockbusters and award-winning TV shows impact what characters and trends people aim to replicate in costume choices each year, eBay data demonstrates that traditional characters continue to rank high on the list. Shoppers should prepare to get out their spell books and sharpen their fangs as witches and vampires remain perennial favorites; new to the list this year are characters from popular superhero films Deadpool and Suicide Squad, while Game of Thrones characters have also made their way on to the list. Moreover, with the Pokémon Go craze sweeping the nation this past summer, look for trainers and creatures like Ash and Pikachu out on Halloween night; probably on more adults than kids.
