Introducing eBay 4.0

The next chapter for eBay Mobile.

For 20 years, eBay has been one of the world’s most vibrant marketplaces for discovering great value and unique selection. And, with the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007, we began a long history of mobile leadership, leveraging our apps and anytime-anywhere experiences to help connect millions of buyers and sellers around the globe.

Back in December, we put a stake in the ground with the updated eBay for iPad app as the start of our journey to create a simpler, more engaging buying and selling experience across any screen people use to access eBay. After launching that app, we heard from our eBay community – they loved the design, but sellers wanted more robust tools to help manage listings and buyers wanted to be inspired when browsing through eBay’s 800M+ listings.

Today, I’m excited to announce that eBay has released a major update to our experience, starting with new apps for iOS and Android, eBay 4.0. This update features a more browsable design with easy access to top deals, promotions and events, balanced with streamlined ways to access the powerful eBay features you’ve come to rely on. eBay 4.0 is a more customized, personalized and simplified way for our customers to browse, shop and sell.

Focused on creating more vibrancy in our marketplace, we’ve elevated selling within eBay 4.0, and have designed a more personalized experience based on a seller’s level and activity. The new app offers more information to help first-time and new sellers be successful, and a new dashboard for more regular sellers with at-a-glance activity updates. We are passionate about creating a great experience for our buyers and enabling the continued success for our sellers.

And we continue to engage our community for input. Last month we introduced the largest public beta program for the new apps on both iOS and Android. The feedback from early testers has been quite positive, honest, and invaluable. We greatly appreciate our customers’ insights about key features and functionality, and their input on the design and overall experience.

Mike Skog, an eBay customer for more than 13 years from North Carolina, started leveraging the eBay Android app three years ago when he began selling bulk items, “After my mother-in-law closed her bookstore, I began selling extra merchandise to customers around the world through eBay. I’ve been using the new beta for about three weeks and love the new functionality. Not only does the experience look great, but it allows me to be truly mobile and respond in real-time to messages. It makes my job easier."

eBay 4.0 is a significant step forward for eBay that underscores our commitment to the multiscreen world we live in today. It represents an exciting new starting point from which we aim to drive big innovation across all the devices our customers like to use – both in our look and feel, and the underlying technology platform we are creating for the future.

As we look ahead to the next 20 years of eBay, we are creating innovative, game-changing commerce that is enabled by people, powered by technology and open to everyone.
