eBay provides a delivery with a difference with latest #DroneAFriend campaign

Press Release

Have you ever wanted to reward a deserving friend with the ultimate techy surprise? eBay Australia gave valued eBay shoppers the opportunity to do just this with a clever delivery of the latest technology this week, with the activation of the brands #DroneAFriend campaign.

The campaign was led by Razorfish with support of DroneHeadz, with eBay Australia asking Sydney shoppers to nominate a deserving friend they wished to reward and surprise with the ultimate tech product. Shoppers were asked to submit entries via a dedicated Facebook app* located on the eBay Australia Facebook page, where they were simply asked, ‘Why do you want to drone your friend?’

eBay received over 2,500 entries, with inspirational and hilarious stories and nominations shared from all over Sydney. eBay received everything from marriage proposals to pleas to save friends from their terrible taste in music. Fans were able to allocate their desired tech product to their nominee, ranging from the latest iPhone 6 to a GoPro, Nikon DSLR and Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to suit a whole host of tech obsessions. These unexpectedly touching stories vary from the delivery of an iPad for grandparents who had never been connected to the Internet and wished to stay close to their grandchildren to giving a GoPro to a rural firefighter who wished to use technology to enhance his training.

After rounds of deliberations, five worthy recipients were chosen and directed by the friend that nominated them to head to various Sydney locations from Bondi Beach to Macquarie’s Chair on the afternoon of Saturday 28th March.

Popular television personality Scott Tweedie was on hand to surprise and interview the winners as their gifts appeared from the sky, with a note attached which clearly identified why they truly deserved this eBay gift and who it was from. Their reactions were priceless, with all thrilled and elated to have been rewarded.

One of the lucky winners Grant Trebilco was nominated by his friend Jack Warick to receive an iPad in order to help in the promotion of their charity, One Wave is all it takes. The introduction of an iPad will allow them to keep connected on the move and continue to help those in the surfing community with mental health issues.

Steve Brennen, eBay Australia’s Senior Director of Marketing and Advertising Sales says: “We are really excited and pleased that we could launch such an innovative and exciting experience to truly deserving Sydneysiders. This competition allowed us to showcase some of the coolest tech currently available, with a unique and techy one off delivery.”

All the action from the day was captured from the air and on ground can be seen on the eBay YouTube channel here.
