Today, eBay announces “Showdown: 7s v 10s,” a livestream event taking place on Sunday, 28 June, that brings two of football’s most iconic shirt numbers head-to-head. Throughout the stream, viewers can make their case for No. 7 or No. 10 while bidding on curated football shirts, trading cards and memorabilia tied to some of the greatest players ever to wear each number, creating a real-time collecting experience centred around some of the sport’s most sought-after items.
The interactive event will feature appearances from England and Premier League star Jack Wilshere representing No. 7s and United States Men's National Team (USMNT) and Major League Soccer (MLS) legend Landon Donovan representing No. 10s. Bringing together legendary athletes and passionate collectors, the livestream gives viewers a front-row seat to the players, stories and collectables that have shaped the legacy of both numbers.
“Football fandom is fueled by rivalry, legacy and shared moments,” said Ashish Chhabra, Vice President, eBay Live. “eBay Live brings those elements together by connecting fans, athletes and collectors around memorabilia that defines the sport. With ‘Showdown: 7s v 10s,’ collectors can do more than watch the showdown unfold, they can take part in it through a marketplace experience only eBay can deliver.”
“England has been home to a number of historic players wearing both numbers. I had the privilege of playing in both the No. 7 and No. 10 and I know how much those shirts mean to players and fans alike,” said Jack Wilshere. “Wearing No. 7 for England at a major tournament was one of the greatest honours of my career, and I’m looking forward to seeing the debate No. 7s v No. 10s sparks. eBay Live is bringing that debate to the fans and giving them the chance to celebrate the players while weighing in on the showdown themselves.”
“The debate around No. 7 versus No. 10 has been part of football culture for generations, and now fans finally get a chance to settle it together,” said Landon Donovan. “Showdown: 7s v 10s on eBay Live takes that rivalry beyond the field by bringing the football community, players and historic memorabilia into one place for a live experience built around the passion and competition that make football special.”
