To enable the most significant impact possible for participating businesses, Up & Running California is limited to a select group of small businesses. There are four eligibility criteria to consider before applying to this program:

Business location

As a company “born and raised” in California, eBay is committed to helping our local small businesses transition to a bright, sustainable future in the digital economy. For that reason, Up & Running California is limited to businesses registered and operationally-based in the State of California.

Product-market fit

All applicants must sell retail products (not services) that align with one of eBay's core merchandise categories. Visit ebay.com to view these categories.

eBay account status

Both new and experienced eBay business sellers are eligible for Up & Running California. The program has been designed to offer a valuable learning experience regardless of your experience on the platform.

Businesses not yet registered on eBay must create a business account before applying. Businesses already registered on eBay must have accounts in good standing. Applicants will be asked to provide their eBay username in the application, which we will use to verify account status.

Business readiness

The most competitive applicants will have:

  • a business operating history of six months or longer

  • a clear and compelling business identity/narrative

  • an established online presence, evidenced by a functioning website and/or well-maintained social media account/s

  • some ecommerce experience (helpful but not required)
