The American Cancer Society will host its very first online “Discovery Shop” on eBay.

Today the American Cancer Society (ACS) – in collaboration with eBay – will launch their celebrated Discovery Shop online.

The American Cancer Society is the largest voluntary health organization in the United States. It is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that, for over 100 years, has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer.

Discovery Shops have long had a strong brick-and-mortar presence, but today marks their initial foray into the world of ecommerce. Consumers can shop great deals or donate items to Discovery Shops, including clothing, accessories, jewelry, furniture, art, antiques, collectibles and other items. 100 percent of the proceeds fund the American Cancer Society’s mission, including cutting edge research, breakthrough treatments, and ongoing patient support. The American Cancer Society will host their online store on eBay, featuring inventory from Discovery Shops around the country.

Practicing what the ACS calls “platinum service,” Discovery Shops are known for becoming beloved community centers in their respective neighborhoods. Continuing to offer the same level of service online is something both ACS and eBay are excited for.

“The Discovery Shop mission is to provide a unique, quality re-sale experience, and we do that by offering platinum service to everyone who walks in our door. We’re very excited to extend that level of service and commitment to an even larger number of people by partnering with eBay to bring our Discovery Shops online.” said Regina Schmitz, Field Director for Discovery Shop at ACS.

Powering ACS’s new online store is eBay for Charity – a platform that helps connect eBay buyers and sellers with their favorite charity – and one that makes it possible for charities like ACS to sell items to over 160M potential buyers without having to pay fees.

Far from just a store, however, Discovery Shops are a space for communities to come together as well as a safe space for any and all people who have had their lives touched by cancer.

Chelene O’Neal, Operations Manager at ACS, said, “We offer so much more than just the inventory in our stores. We share information about cancer, treatment, and recovery, and we offer support and a community for those with cancer or who have loved ones that have been diagnosed.”

All of the proceeds from the online Discovery Shop will directly benefit the American Cancer Society and their continued mission to “save lives and create a world with less cancer.”

In addition to purchases made through the online Discovery Shop, eBay gives sellers the opportunity to donate portions of their transactions to charity – including the American Cancer Society.

John Ujda, Managing Director at ACS, said: “We’re delighted to partner with eBay to bring the online Discovery Store to life. For us this is a very innovative way to raise funds, expand our influence, and continue to fight cancer and its impact worldwide.”

Douglas Wirnowski, General Manager for eBay for Charity concluded: “This new collaboration is poised to demonstrate the power of the eBay community in supporting better commerce by buying and selling in ways that support noble causes like the American Cancer Society”.
