SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LEWEB 2011 — X.commerce, eBay’s open commerce ecosystem, announced today several upcoming technical updates that collectively mark a major milestone in its mission to define the future of commerce. Following a formal introduction at Innovate 2011 in October, today X.commerce is announcing a soon to be released update to its Developer Package and a limited beta program for its Developer Sandbox. The X.commerce ecosystem combines the technology assets and developer communities of eBay, PayPal and Magento in order to better enable merchants and developers to respond to the ‘new normal’ of the commerce environment.

“Since we formally unveiled the vision for X.commerce a couple months ago, we’ve heard loud and clear from the community that they’re ready to take full advantage of the ecosystem now available to them”

“Since we formally unveiled the vision for X.commerce a couple months ago, we’ve heard loud and clear from the community that they’re ready to take full advantage of the ecosystem now available to them,” said Matthew Mengerink, vice president and general manager of X.commerce. “With today’s announcement, we are continuously innovating the tools and technologies we offer merchants and developers so they can keep pace with consumer shopping habits. Together, we are creating the future of commerce.”

The updates shared today include:

  • An updated Developer Package. The X.commerce Developer Package is a downloadable package consisting of all the necessary code, message contracts and samples to get started building and testing with the X.commerce Fabric, the world’s first open commerce operating system. With the updated package, users can create the X.commerce environment on their local workstations without any external dependencies. Also included is a generic capability emulator that simplifies development, as well as an updated version of the X.commerce Plugin for Eclipse, which is designed to improve developer productivity.
  • A limited beta of the Developer Sandbox. By joining the limited beta, developers, partners and systems integrators will get access to a cloud hosted development environment that contains X.commerce components including the X.commerce Fabric, the eBay Marketplace Channel adapter and the X.commerce Catalog Taxonomy adapter. Using the Sandbox, beta users will be able to experience for the first time the end-to-end flow of the current capabilities of the X.commerce ecosystem. Among other things, users will have the ability to develop new components and validate them in a complete flow.

Both the updated Developer Package and the limited beta for the Developer Sandbox will be available in late December via www.x.com.

In addition to technical updates, X.commerce announced several new partnerships and additional support for the ecosystem, as well as the continued expansion of the trusted commerce identity system, PayPal Access. For more information visit: www.x.com/developers/x.commerce
