SAN JOSE, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)-- eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace and a leader in mobile shopping, today announced the winners of its ‘Every Mom’s a Hero’ campaign hosted on eBay’s Facebook Fan Page. The best superhero stories – judged by eBay’s Facebook community in the week before Mother’s Day – honors three women, Isabella Sherry, Erica McGaugh and Alexandra Momney and their mothers, Peggie, Donna and Alejandra.

With entries from all over the country, this Mother’s Day campaign reached about nine million people via Twitter and generated a more than two-fold increase in eBay Facebook fans compared with previous weeks. Thousands of voters weighed in for their favorite mom by sharing their stories about their mothers, who influenced, shaped and nurtured their lives with love, support and encouragement.

“We saw incredible engagement from our community with this campaign, as so many people wanted to honor their mothers on this special occasion,” said Richelle Parham, Chief Marketing Officer for eBay Marketplaces. “eBay is thrilled to honor these three women and their mothers. Their stories capture the special bond between mother and daughter.”

  • Isabella Sherry submitted the grand prize entry. Isabella’s mom, Peggie, started a non-profit organization called Faces of Courage, whose mission is to provide life enriching experiences to children, women and families touched by cancer and/or blood disorders. A three-time cancer survivor, she not only overcame her struggles but used them as a foundation to reach out to others who are facing the same fight. Isabella said, “She’s not just my hero but also the hero of my extended family; the hundreds (if not already thousands) of people who step through the camp doors.”
  • The first prize winner is Erica McGaugh, whose first son was who was born with a rare and fatal chromosome disorder. He lived just 41 days, and Erica’s mother, Donna, has been at her side through it all providing support and love. Of her mother, Erica says, “She inspired and encouraged me to go on and move forward; without her I would have never have made it through.”
  • The second prize winner is Alexandra Momney whose mother, Alejandra, moved to the United States from Mexico with only basic English skills to put herself through medical school; she is now an MD in internal medicine and the owner of a medical clinic. In addition to caring for her patients, her mother takes care of her sister, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and oversees therapy for her autistic brother. “She is a true hero beyond words, at home and in the workplace, she's either saving lives or working hard for others,” Alexandra said of her mother.

The ‘Every Mom’s A Hero’ grand prize winner received a spa weekend getaway for two including airfare, accommodation and an eBay shopping spree. The first and second prize winners earned a 64GB iPad with Wi-Fi and $250 eBay shopping sprees.
