At eBay, we celebrate the people who are making an extraordinary difference in the lives of others. Throughout 2018, we saw our community come together to lift people up across the world - through service, relief and empowerment.
The holiday season offers us a chance to look back, celebrate and be inspired by the incredible heroes that make up our global marketplace. Our new video, eBay Everyday Heroes: Extraordinary Impact, honors people like Callum Miller, who purchased a 3D printer on eBay to print a prosthetic arm for his son, and now helps other children in his community. And Theresa and Alber Goldberg, who sell to help fund their passion of creating murals for children with special needs. And our 2018 Small Business of the Year eBay Shine Award winner Cori O’Steen, who uses her packaging supplies business to help those battling drug addiction to receive long-term addiction recovery services.
These stories serve to remind us that anyone can be a hero, and through the reach and inclusivity of eBay’s global platform, there are unlimited possibilities to extend impact. One way this came to life in 2018 was by pairing Everyday Heroes with eBay for Charity to create even greater impact for the causes our heroes champion.
For example, eBay sports memorabilia seller Marcel Bilak opened an eBay for Charity store, Giving Back to Charity, to sell inventory from his personal collection to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research HospitalⓇ. In honor of September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, eBay donated $1 to St. Jude for every like, comment or share of Marcel’s Everyday Hero video on social media. We also featured St. Jude for donations at checkout, curated a collection of merchandise from Marcel and other eBay sellers to benefit the organization, and shined a spotlight on eBay’s Gifts that Give Back options supporting St. Jude. In all, eBay and our community raised more than $40K in September for the world renowned research hospital.
