eBay Inc. is Celebrating #GivingTuesday, and You Can Too

Sean Milliken, Director, Nonprofits Strategy, eBay Inc.

Since its inception in 2011, #GivingTuesday has become known as the unofficial start of the holiday giving season. Here at eBay Inc., we’ve consistently found December to be the busiest time of the year for charitable giving (particularly the end of the month) – so we’ve been pleased to partner with #GivingTuesday over the past several years to extend the holiday giving season and encourage even more support for important charitable causes. Today marks another #GivingTuesday and we’re excited to offer a couple new ways for individuals to help their favorite organizations this holiday:

Give Cheer Through PayPal
Starting today through Dec. 31, PayPal will add an extra 1% on top of every donation made at www.paypal.com/givecheer. That means 101% of every gift will reach each donor’s charity of choice*! There’s no cap on the number of gifts or total amount donated to get the extra 1% match, as long as each individual donation is at least $10. We’ve also extended the match to Canadian charities through our friends at CanadaHelps, and to all of the campaigns happening on Razoo this month. So whether you give through the PayPal Give Cheer site, CanadaHelps or Razoo, we’ll add an extra 1% to your donation.

Help a Charity Win Big on eBay
Starting today and running throughout December, nonprofits can ask supporters to ‘favorite’ their organization on eBay. The charities that receive the most new favorites between Dec. 2 and 31 will receive cash grant prizes ($25,000 for first place and $15,000 for second, as well as a $10,000 random drawing). In addition to nonprofit grants, supporters who favorite a cause on eBay will be eligible to win prizes paid via PayPal – a $2,500 grand prize or first and second prizes of $1,000 and $100, respectively. Charitable organizations can get involved here and supporters can tell us their favorite charity here.

Last year, #GivingTuesday saw a more than 120 percent increase in total US charitable donations through PayPal. This year, through our PayPal and eBay campaigns, we’re aiming to inspire and enable even more good. We hope you’ll consider donating and encourage your friends and families to do the same. And we’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the great holiday giving activity this season – stay tuned!

*When donations are made through PayPal Giving Fund, PayPal covers all costs, ensuring charities gets 100 percent of every gift.
